World’s best hiphop dance performances

We open the festival with an eclectic mix of hiphop dance from the Netherlands. With performances from Dutch talents Simon Bus & Roy Overdijk, Zero Dance Theatre in a choreography by Denden Karadeniz (trailer), a double bill by Dalton Jansen & Menno van Gorp, Joseph Simon, Junadry Leocaria and Alesya Dobysh.

THEATRE FOREVER: VIVONS, TENTACLE TRIBE, BAGSY
Wednesday 24 August at International Theater Amsterdam
Echoing the hashtag #Never 21 designed by the BLACK LIVES MATTERS movement to denounce the early deaths that gnaw at discriminated youth in poor neighborhoods, with this choreographic piece Smail Kanouté wishes to pay tribute to the young victims of firearms in New York, Rio or Johannesburg… who die before the age of 21. Canadian company Tentacle Tribe present their new work, in which the free-spirited pair combine elements of contemporary dance, street dance and martial arts in a physical score that echoes the subtle pulse of respiration. Also with a solo by Bagsy and a solo by Thomas Carsley (winner of the Solo & Duet Theatre Competition 2020).

THEATRE FOREVER: NICOLAS HUCHARD, MAZELFRETEN, COOPER & VOLDO
Thursday August 25 at DeLaMar Theater
An evening with waacking and electro performances by Nicolas Huchard, Mazelfreten (video) and Cooper & Voldo (winners Solo & Duet Theatre Competition 2020). Fully aware of the media hype that surrounded the emergence of the brand Tecktonik in the year 2000, Brandon and Laura – a.k.a. Mazelfreten – reproduce the codes and styles of the electro dance in this original collaboration.

THEATRE FOREVER: OUSMANE SY, GRICHKA CARUGE, SOFY POLO & GEORGE VALDEZ
Friday 26 August at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam
House performance by Paradox-Sal in a choreography by Ousmane Sy (video). Birth is the first choreographic creation by Grichka Caruge, precursor of the krump movement in Europe. And duet by Sofy Polo & George Valdez (winners Solo & Duet Theatre Competition 2021).

THEATRE FOREVER: IRON SKULLS, FLOWCUS, SPOKEN MOVEMENT AND MORE
Breaking and hiphop dance in the OBA Theater on Saturday August 27. With Barcelona based dance collective Iron Skulls, known for their peculiar style and continuously investigating the limits of movement. Also with Spoken Movement, Flowcus (photo) and Marina Molina (winner of Solo & Duet Theatre Competition 2021.
