UK Bass, Bruk and Beyond

After the first wave of producers like Bugz in the Attic, Domu, and IG Culture, a new generation of DJs and producers is now pushing the boundaries of broken beat/bruk. We already had Shy One and Abiba earlier this year, now introducing a new range of boundary pushing talents. Leading the charge is D’Monk, whose EP Shine on the London-based label Touching Bass was hailed by Benji B (BBC Radio 1) as one of the best releases of 2024. Also on deck: Mo Wrights, and a heavy-hitting b2b set by Lucas Benjamin & Pelanoir. Expect deep grooves, sharp rhythms, and a serious celebration of Bruk and beyond..

Lucas Benjamin b2b Pelanoir

SDF-regular Lucas Benjamin's first encounters with music started at an early age. As the son of a DJ and musician he was nourished with a broad selection of sounds. Together with Leroy Rey, he co-founded Wicked Wax, a label blending soul, jazz, and funk with modern sounds. He also created Steppin’ Into Tomorrow, an Amsterdam-based platform showcasing Dutch music on the global stage.

Radio host, club programmer and former Steppin’ student of Lucas: Pelanoir. Music has always been an essential thread in her life; it is an indispensable component for her peace of mind. She finds her outlet in discovering new sounds and experimenting with them as she states “Good music is good music”. A rising DJ in the city blending breaks, bass and house. For this night she will go deep into her broken beat collection.

D'Monk

D’Monk (pronounced duh’munk) is an instrumentalist, producer and selector from London with heavy ties to Berlin. His music emanates the raw and the soulful — representing an eclectic collage of his influences — whether in the form of recorded songs, DJ sets or his body-stirring live performances.

It’s an approach which has seen him gain support from a varied who’s who; from Brainfeeder’s Flying Lotus and Dorian Concept to DJ Spinna, Rush Hour and ADE 2024, where he is set to perform his trademark live set blend of analogue driven grooves and luscious, soulful soundscapes.

Benji B

One of the UK's most respected DJs. Renowned worldwide for his radio shows and club sets alike, having worked tirelessly since first falling in love with Londonʼs club culture at an early age, Benji B stands today as one of the UKʼs most respected broadcasters and DJs. As renowned for his deep, crate plundering club sets (which take in everything from soulful electronic music to hip hop, house and beyond) as much as his eclectic, taste-making selections.

Mo Wrights

Mo Wrights channels the soul in his veins through narrative-driven mixes and productions blending the young with the old, the clean with the dirty and affixing the riddim with the radiance of balmy jazz chords. Mo Wrights is a producer, DJ, curator and co-founder of the Amsterdam-based music platform Steppin’ Into Tomorrow. His deep appreciation for and knowledge of music (culture) radiates through narrative-driven mixes and productions. He centralises story and narrative; genres are just chapters which, when taken together, are greater than the sum of their parts.
